Attunements

The world of Meedia is home to magical energies that originate from the universe's Spiritual Realm. Spirits are born and held there, and the realm itself holds many layers. The Dakon'vael live in one of the layers of the Spiritual Realm and have since created a viable land for themselves. The Kass'na exist in a between state, for they still hold a good connection with the physical world.

There are various theories as to how this happens, but the planet itself holds spiritual energy and can be coaxed into being manipulated for a unique user. Earth, wind, fire, water, these elements make up the planet and they all have their own voice. A connection between the element and the user must be established, and proper training allows the two to eventually communicate.

With that said, Attunement simply means an individual has successfully established a connection with an element. This typically happens to young children, who begin to complain of hearing voices. In my novel Destined, a young Qui'vali elf named Briae claims her voices sound like 'muddy water'. In cases like hers, the confusion she exhibits is due to her hearing two separate voices at the same time, or having two Attunements. Certain races can have more than one Attunement, elves are infamous for this ability.

So now an Attunement has been discovered; what's next? Typically, the young individual is then trained on how to communicate with their element. As stated earlier, each element has its own voice, and in order for the user to coax said element to warp and bend for them, they have to strengthen their bond through voice. There is no 'set' language for the elements, every individual with an Attunement must feel how to command and respond. The words come to them instinctively and are never the same for each person. Two users Attuned to wind may speak completely differently from each other, although studies have shown people who are spiritually aligned may sound similar when invoking.
